Football Update

Year 10 football:

Our first game of the new season started away at St Edmunds, a side recently relegated from division 1. We kicked off on a pitch with goals without nets and a ball that lacked a bit of air! We started brightly however playing some lovely football all over the pitch. The passing and movement was great to see and very similar to their year 7 year when we won the league. Numerous chances were created but sadly not converted. Half time we fully deserved the 2-0 lead. If anything the second half we were even more dominant and looked like scoring every time we went forward. We added 4 more goals to win the game 6-0. A good start to the season with a great all round team performance. Always nice when it’s hard to choose man of the match. However we did and it was jointly awarded to captain Tyler McLaren Kaye and Matas Baubliauskas. 2 outstanding performances in defence and midfield respectively.

Year 9

Tonight, saw our newly promoted Y9 football team represent us in Division 1 of the Wolverhampton City League. Sadly, we were below par in the first half for the standard that is expected of us in the league.

We have had 3 players pull out today leaving us only taking 11. We were poor in holding shape and a few goalkeeping errors saw us go in at half time 5-0 down. Second half we showed what we were about. Grit, determination, and free flowing play. Ceejae, Harry and Isaac R linked up beautifully in the centre of the park to create a goal scoring chance where Zayne was brought down to gain us a penalty. Harry J converted to get us on the score sheet. We went down to 10 men due to an injury and fought our socks off but going into the last 15, it was clear the fitness levels began to drop and tiredness set in.

We came away losing 7-1 to runners up in division 1 last season. We have a lot to learn and will need to regroup. Man of the match – Ceejae Nicholls – pure genius on the ball at times and created a lot in the second half.
